This is a "train beat" played with brushes on the snare and with a kick drum playing the down beats. It's very upbeat and scattered with little embellishments to break it up. The dynamics come slightly up and down at various points to differentiate sections. At around 1:20, the kick drum drops out, then after everything goes silent for a moment, the original beat comes back in. Eventually the hi-hat, played with the foot pedal, starts loosening up and ringing out. Overall, besides some subtle dynamics shifts, the beat remains steady throughout the track.
